Low Expansion Foam
Where low
expansion foam systems are fitted in addition to the machinery space fire
protection requirements, they must produce a 150 mm depth of foam, over the
largest single area that oil fuel could spread, within 5 minutes. The expansion
ratio is designed not to exceed 12:1.
Typical low
expansion foam systems include Tanker cargo deck areas and Helicopter landing
platforms. The foam flow rates, discharge devices and discharge times are
determined by the size and type of risk involved.
